Nomadic at TenneT
Innovation Days

The NOMAD lands on a live conductor, charges from the line, and keeps measuring from there for weeks. This is the short version of what we showed at TenneT Innovation Days, and the fastest way to start a project with us. We are already monitoring grids at TenneT, Westnetz and Amprion.

The gap

Grid operators cannot see everything, everywhere, all at once

Fixed sensors are continuous but stay in one place. Aerial surveys cover the whole line but only on survey days.
The NOMAD fills the gap between static sensors and seasonal inspections.

01 · Fixed sensor

Continuous in time, at one point. Blind everywhere else on the site.

02 · Aerial survey

The whole site, on survey days. Blind between the flights.

03 · Nomadic

Wherever you need, continuously. Measure at any position in your grid for weeks or months, relocating drones as needed.

Specifications

The NOMAD lives on power lines

Lands on the line

Any drone pilot places it on a live circuit in under five minutes. No outage, no bucket truck, no specialised crew.

Charges from the line

The conductor is the power source, so the drone stays out on the grid for weeks instead of hours.

Monitors the line

Conductor temperature, current, line angle and imagery, captured on the wire and streamed to your dashboard.

Takes off. Repeats.

When the measurement gap moves, the drone moves with it and starts the cycle again somewhere else.

Validated

Measured on the conductor, checked against your own data

Current, validated against substation metering

Current measured on the conductor tracks the substation metering for the same circuit through a full week of load swings.

Temperature, validated against CIGRE TB 601

Across 1,629 hours, the CIGRE TB 601 estimate ran 1.52 °C warm on average against our measured conductor temperature, with an RMSE of 3.31 °C.

A sensor on the line sees what a weather station cannot

Rain cooling the conductor below air temperature shows up in the measurement, and never in the model.

Where we are going

All measurements you need. Anywhere. Anytime.

Always where you need it

Identify a measurement gap and an autonomous relocation is one click away.

Actionable results

We turn measurements into forecasts of failures, capacity and risk, so you act before problems reach the field.

One drone, many use cases

Inspect your infrastructure, monitor threats and increase capacity with a single device.

Use cases

An all-in-one mobile sensor

Dynamic Line Rating

Push 15-30% more power through existing lines with real-time conductor data.

Grid Inspections

Autonomous BVLOS inspections without the cost and risk of helicopter patrols.

Ice Monitoring

Continuous on-wire visibility of ice loading through winter storms.

Wildfire Detection

Redeployable sensing across high-fire-threat districts, with no ground infrastructure.

Security & Surveillance

A tireless, self-charging watch over remote assets and blind spots.
